Rasmus Hojlund provides interesting response when asked about Manchester United's pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has refused to address the reports linking Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt with the Red Devils. However, the Denmark international did say that De Ligt is a good defender.

With Raphael Varane leaving Manchester United upon the expiry of his contract, the club are said to be on the lookout for an experienced central defender. Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed contact he been made with De Ligt's entourage and the deal could be possible this summer.

When quizzed about the Red Devils' links with De Ligt, Hojlund told Sky Sports' Florian Plettenberg:

"That's nothing to do with me. I can't answer that question, but he is a good defender."

The Netherlands international was heavily linked with a United move in the 2019 summer window. But he chose to join Juventus from Ajax in a €85 million deal, where he spent three years before moving to Bayern Munich.

As per Romano, De Ligt is open to joining United despite the absence of Champions League football. On the other hand, Bayern are prepared to listen to offers for the defender as well.

Notably, De Ligt played under Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag during their time together at Ajax. Under his compatriot, the defender made 70 appearances across competitions, in which he scored eight and assisted five goals as well.

During the same interview, Hojlund was also asked about working under Ten Hag. Notably, the Dutchman was linked with a summer exit after an eighth-placed league finish for Manchester United last term.

However, as per Sky Sports (via SportsMole), discussions between the manager and the board have progressed well and he could be offered a new contract soon.

"Very happy. He’s a very good coach! I have loved to work with him this year and looking forward to next year," Hojlund said when asked about Ten Hag.

When asked about his personal goals, the 21-year-old replied:

"Be even better. Score even more goals, and hopefully we can win another trophy."

Rasmus Hojlund joined Manchester United in a €73.90 million deal from Atalanta last summer. He struggled to get going immediately but found his scoring boots eventually, finishing the season with 16 goals in 43 games across competitions.
