Rasmus Hojlund surpasses Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford as he sets new Manchester United milestone after scoring twice in win over Plzen

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund earned himself a place in the club's record books ahead of Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford. The youngster scored twice for the Red Devils in their 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, December 12.

Hojlund started the game on the bench for Ruben Amorim's side, with Joshua Zirkzee preferred up front as they sought a second successive win in the competition. With the side failing to find the net in the first half and falling behind at the start of the second, Amorim brought on Hojlund in the 56th minute.

The Denmark international scored twice in the second half to lead his side to victory away from home. the 21-year-old's brace took him to five goals in the Europa League this season and 10 in European competitions for Manchester United. He became the first player in the club's history aged 21 or under to score 10 goals in European competitions, surpassing the nine scored by Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford.

Hojlund needed just 12 games to notch up his 10th European goal for the Red Devils, with half of the tally coming in the UEFA Champions League last season.

He also helped Ruben Amorim avoid losing a third successive game, which would have been an unwanted first in the manager's career. The young striker has now scored five goals and provided an assist since the Portuguese tactician's arrival last month.

First, he tapped home the rebound after the ball fell into his path in the box (62'), then he showed great strength and poise to hold off a defender and fire home in the 88th minute.
