Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United dealt blow in race to sign Bundesliga mainstay: Reports
Alphonso Davies, whose ongoing contract situation had kept everyone across the footballing world on tenterhooks, appears close to signing an extension with his current club Bayern Munich. According to Fichajes.net, the Bavarian giants and Davies are close to agreeing to a contract extension.
Davies' current deal ends in the summer of 2025 and he can technically sign new offers from January itself. A lot of clubs, including Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid were interested in Davies' signature, but unfortunately, the Canadian's contract extension news have put paid to those plans.
Davies, 24, is one of the best fullbacks in the world and Real Madrid and Manchester United were especially keen on bringing him over to boost their flanks. Both clubs know the importance of the left-back position, and have closely followed Davies' progress. Even Barcelona were keen on signing him.
Manchester United and Real Madrid were both especially drawn to Alphonso Davies
Manchester United, under new head coach Ruben Amorim, like to play in a three-man backline, and Davies' acquisition would have given them a big boost. Amorim is keen on a ball-playing left central defender who can also run up and down the flanks when trying to feed balls into the final third.
Real Madrid, who are served well by Ferland Mendy, 29, in the left-back position, were looking to strengthen it all the more.
Davies has made 214 appearances for Bayern across all competitions so far, and even scored 11 goals. The Canadian international earlier played for Vancouver Whitecaps from 2016 to 2018.
He has been in fine form in the Bundesliga this season, starting in 10 matches for Bayern and providing one assist. His presence at the back has boosted Vincent Kompany's side, and both Real Madrid and Manchester United will be disheartened by the news of his contract extension.
