Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti makes stance clear after being asked "where will Mbappe play?" ahead of new season
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed his plans with regard to how he intends to use Kylian Mbappe in his squad from the 2024-25 season. The French forward arrived as the club's latest marquee addition, signing for a side that has some of the best forwards in world football.
France international and PSG legend Mbappe had been on the Real Madrid radar for years, with the Spanish giants offering up to a reported €200 million for his services at a point. The forward finally decided to join the Spanish club this summer, fulfilling his childhood dream.
The arrival of the Frenchman at the Santiago Bernabeu was feared to be a potential problem for the balance of the squad by many. The 25-year-old operates in largely the same positions as Brazilian star Vinicius Jr, who is among the frontrunners for this year's Ballon d'Or.
Carlo Ancelotti was a guest on the Obi One Podcast, where he issued a clarification on how he intends to play Mbappe in 2024-25. The legendary Italian manager cited mobility as the key factor for his attackers, including the former PSG man.
“Where will Mbappé play? I see him playing in the front with the attack being quite wide. I think the important key to have a good attack is MOBILITY.”
Kylian Mbappe was unveiled in front of over 80,000 fans at the Santiago Bernabeu on July 16 to great fanfare. The France captain will play alongside the likes of Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham in what is expected to be a very formidable frontline for the Spanish side.
Carlo Ancelotti hints at fluidity in Real Madrid attack following Mbappe arrival
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has hinted that there will be no fixed positions for Kylian Mbappe and his fellow attacking superstars in 2024-25. The Italian manager spoke with Mikel Obi on his Obi One Podcast, revealing that he gives his attackers license to express themselves.
”I see him play in front and the attack is quite wide The pitch is 68 metres. We have to cover the 68 meters with the players in front. It can be Vinicius because when I’m asked where he played last season it is difficult to say because he didn’t play as a left-winger and the same with Rodrygo. He starts on the right but sometimes shifts to the middle of the left."
Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo powered the team to win the UEFA Champions League title in the 2023-24 season and are expected to continue in starring roles. With the addition of Mbappé to their squad, Real Madrid are expected to continue dominating the European football scene.
