Real Madrid dealt fresh blow as 26-year-old star sidelined with muscle injury

Real Madrid have suffered another injury blow as defender Eder Militao has been sidelined with a muscle injury in his left leg. The defender has also withdrawn from the Brazil national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifier games.

Real Madrid confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, October 8, that the Brazilian has picked up a muscle injury in the quadriceps of his left leg. The statement read:

"Following tests carried out on our player Eder Militão by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the quadriceps of his left leg. His progress will be monitored."

The Atheltic have reported that the centre-back is expected to be fit for the La Liga clash against Barcelona on October 26.

Carlo Ancelotti's side are facing an injury crisis with Vinicius Jr, Brahim Diaz and Thibaut Courtois also racing against time to be fit for El Clasico. Meanwhile, Dani Carvajal and David Alaba are both out long-term with ACL injuries.

Carlo Ancelotti confirms big injury blow for Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Dani Carvajal suffered a serious injury and could be out for long. He said (via Forbes):

"We are going to wait for the medical evaluation. The doctor said that he has a knee injury but we have to wait to do tests. Hopefully it will be as minor as possible. The dressing room is sad and worried, just like Dani. He is a very, very important player for us, fundamental for his experience, seriousness, professionalism. We are going to wait."

However, he is confident that Lucas Vazquez can step in and deliver with the main right-back out. He said:

"We have a lot of confidence in Lucas [Vazquez] and if we lose him we will look for someone in the squad to do that role. I won't be [doing it],"
