Real Madrid handed fitness boost as star man returns to training after injury lay-off

Real Madrid have received a major boost as star midfielder Eduardo Camavinga returned to first-team training after a spell on the sidelines through injury. Los Blancos have faced a tough start to the campaign, losing several high-profile players to injury since before the season began.

France international Camavinga was named in the squad to face Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup last month. In the final training session before the game, the 21-year-old collided with Luka Modric, suffering an injury to his knee in the process. Real Madrid went on to win the game 2-0 but Camavinga did not feature, and has not featured since.

Eduardo Camavinga was pictured in training by club sources, with what appears to be a knee brace to protect his knee. According to a post on X by @MadridXtra, the midfielder is back to full fitness. He will be in contention for the upcoming game against city rivals Atletico Madrid on Sunday (September 29).

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has had to deal with a number of key absentees this season already, particularly in midfield. The trio of Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham have already suffered injuries and recovered, while Dani Ceballos remains out injured. Tchouameni and Bellingham returned to action against Espanyol last weekend after missing one and four games, respectively.

Eduardo Camavinga was tipped to take on a bigger role in the Los Blancos squad this season following Toni Kroos' retirement in the summer. The former Rennes man appeared 46 times in the 2023-24 season as his side won LaLiga, the UEFA Champions League, and the Supercopa. His versatility and quality in multiple positions were on show last season, as he played at left-back six times.

Real Madrid forward doubtful for derby clash - Reports

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe is a doubt for his side's league meeting with neighbors Atletico Madrid on Sunday. The France international started the game against Alaves in midweek and scored. But he had to come off with what appeared to be a thigh problem in the 80th minute of the 3-2 win.

The BBC reports that the 25-year-old has joined the injury list at the club after suffering an injury to his biceps femoris in his left leg. The former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) man had found his feet at the Spanish giants, scoring six goals in his last seven appearances for the side.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will hope that the Frenchman has avoided an injury and is available for the trip to the Wanda Metropolitano. The progression of his injury will be monitored closely with a view to having him back to full fitness for the game.
