Real Madrid join Manchester City in race to sign 22-year-old Ligue 1 breakout star: ReportsĀ
Real Madrid and Manchester City will reportedly be competing to sign 22-year-old goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from LOSC Lille. As per a report from Spanish media outlet Fichajes, Chevalier has garnered attention from the Los Blancos. The club is looking for a goalkeeper since there is an uncertainty regarding Andriy Lunin's long-term future.
Chevalier made his breakthrough to LOSC Lille's starting XI back in the 2022-23 season. Since then, he has registered 92 appearances for the French side. In the process, he has kept 36 clean-sheets and conceded 88 goals. He was also a part of the team which defeated Real Madrid 1-0 in the ongoing UEFA Champions League edition.
Real Madrid might see Andriy Lunin shift base even though he signed a new contract some time back. Thus, the LaLiga giants will look to fill the void.
On the other hand, Manchester City are another club that need Chevalier more. They have Ederson Moraes and Stefan Ortega. While the Brazilian goalkeeper is now a target for Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Pro League clubs, Ortega is open to leave City next year.
Lucas Chevalier, as of now, has three more years in his contract at LOSC Lille. Hence, he would not come in cheap. Both Real Madrid and Manchester City will need a head-turning offer to convince the goalkeeper. Adding to that, a hefty transfer fee is expected to be sought by Chevalier's current club too.
How are Real Madrid and Manchester City performing this season?
Real Madrid currently find themselves in the second position in LaLiga, behind leaders Barcelona. The Los Blancos are just three points short of the Catalan giants. Moreoever, they are one of the two sides, along with Atletico Madrid, who are yet to suffer a defeat.
In the UEFA Champions League, Real Madrid made a strong start by defeating German side VfB Stuttgart 3-1 in their opening clash. However, in the second group stage fixture, they went down 0-1 to LOSC Lille.
Manchester City too, like Real Madrid, sit on the second place of the Premier League table. They are just a point behind Arne Slot's Liverpool and are yet to lose a game in this edition of the domestic league. Notably, Arsenal too, are yet to be beaten. In the continental event, Pep Guardiola's side started out with a 0-0 draw against Inter Milan. However, in their recent fixture, they handed a 4-0 drubbing to Slovan Bratislava.
