Real Madrid-linked Alphonso Davies chooses between Kylian Mbappe and Luka Modric
Real Madrid-linked Alphonso Davies recently made his pick between Kylian Mbappe and Luka Modric. It came in a section of an interview by TSN with the Canadian national team.
As per Sport (via Madrid Universal), Real Madrid are interested in signing Alphonso Davies this summer, whose contract expires next summer. Bayern Munich are pushing for the left-back to sign a new contract. If he doesn't sign it, the Bavarians will look to sell him this summer to avoid letting him leave for free next year.
Amidst all this, the Canadian national team gave an interview on TSN a few days ago during the Copa America 2024. In that, there was a section where players were asked to pick between two players. At one point, Alphonso Davies had to pick between Kylian Mbappe and Luka Modric and he said:
“I think I’ll take Mbappe.”
Kylian Mbappe only recently completed his move to Real Madrid as a free agent. He left Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) upon the expiration of his contract last month and joined Los Blancos. He completed his medical and presentation on Tuesday, July 16.
Luka Modric, meanwhile, is a club legend, having made 534 appearances, contributing 39 goals and 86 assists. He is the joint-most decorated player in Los Blancos' history with 26 trophies, tied with Nacho Fernandez.
Kylian Mbappe explains why he didn't ask for No. 10 shirt at Real Madrid from Luka Modric
Kylian Mbappe wore the No. 10 shirt for France and No. 7 for PSG. When his move to Real Madrid was announced, there was speculation about which shirt he would take. The No. 7 shirt belongs to Vinicius Jr.
The No. 10 shirt belongs to Luka Modric, who is reportedly set to sign a new contract and stay at the Santiago Bernabeu for one more year. Mbappe was asked if he wanted the No. 10 shirt at a press conference and he answered (via Managing Madrid):
“Who said I wanted the number 10? We have a number 10, Luka Modrić, who has won everything and a Ballon d’Or. I’m happy because I’m nine so I’m next to him. The number isn’t important for me, I don’t look behind, I only look forward at the goal in front of me. The nine is historic at Real Madrid, but it’s not important for me.”
Kylian Mbappe will wear the No. 9 shirt. Meanwhile, Luka Modric's contract with the Spanish giants expired last month but he's expected to sign a one-year extension.
