Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga jokes about his new position in Los Blancos’ training

On Saturday, Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga posted a photo on Instagram with a whistle in one hand, seemingly refereeing a training match. That came two days after Los Blancos had drawn 1-1 at Las Palmas in La Liga in midweek.

The Frenchman has missed all three league games this season after sustaining an injury in the 2-0 UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta in Warsaw last month. Although many feared the worst, but he was adjudged with a sligth strain to his lateral knee ligament,

The Athletic has reported that Camavinga could be out of action for six to eight weeks. Meanwhile, the Frenchman seems to be having some fun as he repurates from his injury. He captioned the aforementioned post (as translated from Spanish):

"New position unlocked: referee."

The 21-year-old is set to miss matches against Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad in La Liga and the first two matchdays of Los Blancos' UEFA Champions League title defence.

Head coach Carlo Ancelotti's side will want the midfielder to be fit as soon as possible. With the retirement of Toni Kroos and injury to Jude Bellingham, Los Blancos are running thin in the midfield. Camavinga's ability to break opposition attacks and ball control make him an important asset for the Spanish giants.

According to Spanish journalist Jorge C Picon of Relevo, Camavinga is recovering quickly and has started running at a low intensity.

The report also says that the club is expecting the midfielder to start training with the ball after the international break. However, a return to the pitch could take longer.

Real Madrid face Real Betis at home in their next La Liga match on Sunday, trailing leaders Barcelona (12) by eight points but with a game in hand.
