Real Madrid set to step up push to sign Liverpool star in January: Reports

Real Madrid are plotting a move to sign Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold in the forthcoming January transfer window, according to a report by journalist, Ekrem Konur. The report is coming in the aftermath of Dani Carvajal's anterior cruciate ligament injury, which is expected to keep him on the sidelines for a lengthy spell.

As a result, Real Madrid's hierarchy are trying to salvage the situation by making a quick move for Alexander-Arnold, as he's also been seen as a long-term replacement in the right-back position.

Alexander-Arnold is regarded as one of the vital cogs in Liverpool's recent achievements. He's also seen as a remarkable modern-day right-back, who could support in not just the defense, but the attack as well.

The Englishman's current contract at Anfield is set to expire in June 2025 and he's yet to sign an extension as well. As such, if he declines to sign a contract extension, Liverpool could be open to selling the right-back as they might be unwilling to let him leave as a free agent next summer.

According to Transfermarkt, Alexander-Arnold’s current market value is €70 million, as the Englishman is regarded as one of the best in his position.

When we also take a look at his contributions over the years at Anfield, it can be stated that the Englishman has been remarkable, netting 19 goals and registering 83 assists in 319 games.

Hence, with Carvajal currently on the sidelines, the Englishman could serve as a decent replacement for the Spaniard in Carlo Ancelotti's squad. However, the main dilemma in the potential transfer could be the transfer fee, as the Reds hierarchy could be looking to get a decent fee, if the deal goes through.

When you take a look at the right-back options at Real Madrid, it can be stated that the push for a long-term right-back is valid. This is based on the idea that Lucas Vasquez is currently in the final year of his current contract, which is expected to expire in June 2025. Similarly, Carvajal has been struggling with his fitness in recent times.

With Alexander-Arnold currently leading the race to be the ideal replacement, Real Madrid have also identified Joshua Kimmich as a player that they are interested in, according to a report by All Football.

In terms of experience, Kimmich is right up there, having captained Bayern Munich several times. In terms of versatility as well, Kimmich can also be seen as a versatile player, who could feature at right-back and in the midfield when necessary.

Hence, given his contract situation at Bayern Munich as well, Real Madrid could sign him as he's currently valued at €50 million, as per Transfermarkt.
