Real Madrid star set to pen new three-year contract after summer exit speculation: Reports

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are set to offer Ferland Mendy a new contract. Fabrizio reports that the Spanish giants have reached an agreement in principle with the French international for a new contract which will run until 2027, with the option of an extra year.

Mendy, 29, is in the final year of this contract at the Spanish capital, with his current deal set to expire next summer (June 2025). However, the Frenchman is a key member of Carlo Ancelotti's set-up and the club are eager to keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The left-back joined Madrid in 2019 from Olympique Lyon for a reported fee of €48 million. He displaced Marcelo to become the club's first-choice in the left-back position. Since then, he has made 175 appearances for Los Blancos, winning three league titles and the UEFA Champions League twice.

Mendy's consistency and defensive proficiency has seen him continue to be an integral player for Ancelotti. He has featured in all but one of the club's games this term.

Real Madrid were heavily linked with a move for Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies in the summer. However, this imminent contract renewal puts an end to speculations surrounding a possible exit for Mendy next summer.

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal speaks on his future at Santiago Bernabeu

Dani Carvajal is another first-team star at Real Madrid whose contract is set to expire next summer. The Spanish international has yet to pen a new deal with the club, and he has less than a year left on his contract.

Carvajal, 32, spoke recently about his future saying that he is ready to remain in the Spanish capital for as long as possible, provided that the club wants his services.

"My idea is to stay as long as possible, but being realistic. When I don’t feel I’m not at a good enough level, I’ll step aside. Provided that the club wants to continue with my services, of course," Carvajal said (as per Forbes).

Real Madrid have a policy of only offering a one-year contract extension to players aged over 30. Thus, the club could offer him a new contract until 2026. Carvajal has been a huge player for the Spanish club over the past decade, winning six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga championships.

The Spaniard is one of the top favorites for the 2024 Ballon d'Or. Last term, he won the La Liga and Champions League with Real Madrid, before capping off his season by also winning the European Championship with Spain in the summer.
