Real Madrid suffer another injury scare as star player is forced off on international duty
Real Madrid have suffered yet another injury issue as Arda Guler appears to have suffered a knock. The midfielder played the entire 90 minutes in Turkiye's UEFA Nations League clash against Wales on Friday, September 6.
Guler started the game, which remained goalless until half-time. Turkiye's Baris Alper Yilmaz was then sent off in the 62nd minute but Wales were unable to capitalize on their man advantage as the match ended goalless. In the 90th minute, Guler was on the end of a tackle and went down. He was replaced by Irfan Kahveci.
After the game, Turkiye manager Vincenzo Montella said (via Madrid Xtra):
"Arda came off due to a knock.”
Guler, 19, has featured four times for Real Madrid this season, starting one game. Los Blancos will hope the youngster returns without an injury as Turkiye will next face Iceland on September 9.
The Spanish giants, meanwhile, already have a host of injuries to deal with. David Alaba is expected to return after November this year as he recovers from his ACL injury. Academy star Joan Martinez also suffered an ACL injury this summer. Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga have also missed the start of the La Liga campaign.
Moreover, Eder Militao suffered an injury in training with Brazil during the ongoing international break. Dani Ceballos is also injured. Ferland Mendy and Aurelien Tchouameni also returned from France's camp due to injury.
Real Madrid congratulate Cristiano Ronaldo after his historic achievement
Cristiano Ronaldo became the first male footballer to reach the 900-goal mark on Thursday, September 5. He netted Portugal's second in a 2-1 win over Croatia in their UEFA Nations League clash.
Recognizing their club legend's achievement, Real Madrid put out a post on social media congratulating Ronaldo, which read:
"Another historic milestone: 900 goals in the professional career of one of the greatest legends of Real Madrid and world football. Congratulations, dear and admired @Cristiano! Real Madrid and the Madrid fans are always proud of you."
Ronaldo joined Los Blancos from Manchester United in 2009 for a then-world-record fee of £89 million. After nine years, he became their all-time top scorer with 450 goals and 131 assists in 438 games. He won four UEFA Champions League, two La Liga titles, and numerous other titles with the club.
Ronaldo scored the other 450 goals for Sporting CP (5), Manchester United (145), Portugal (131), Juventus (101), and Al-Nassr (68). He will look to add to his tally with Portugal and Al-Nassr.
