Real Madrid suffer fresh setback as Kylian Mbappe is diagnosed with muscle injury that could rule him out for 3 weeks

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has suffered an injury in the biceps femoris of his left leg, confirmed official sources of the club. The Frenchman had asked coach Carlo Ancelotti to take him off due to discomfort in his left thigh during Los Blancos' 3-2 win over Deportivo Alaves on Tuesday (September 24).

Mbappe gave Real Madrid a 2-0 lead over Alaves in the 40th minute, after Lucas Vazquez's opening goal in the first minute. However, the forward was subbed off in the 80th minute for Arda Guler, with the Spanish giants leading 3-0. The game ultimately ended with a 3-2 scoreline after a late comeback by Alaves.

On September 25, Real Madrid confirmed Kylian Mbappe's injury on their official website. The statement said:

"After the tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappé by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris of his left leg. Pending evolution."

The club did not confirm how long Mbappe could remain out. However, as per fresh reports by journalist Mario Cortegana, the Frenchman could potentially be out for three weeks.

If Mbappe is ruled out for three weeks, he will miss crucial fixtures for Real Madrid, including the Madrid derby in La Liga (September 29) and their UEFA Champions League clash against LOSC (October 2).

Kylian Mbappe joined Los Blancos on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) this summer, quickly becoming one of the club's most significant players. The Frenchman won his first trophy with Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup, where he found the net once during their 2-0 win over Atalanta.

Mbappe has maintained his impressive form in La Liga, scoring five goals and securing one assist in seven appearances in the league so far. He also scored his first UEFA Champions League goal for Los Blancos in their 3-1 win over VfB Stuttgart in their league phase opener of the tournament.

Overall, the Frenchman scored seven goals and recorded one assist in nine appearances for the Spanish giants this season. Mbappe's potential absence for three weeks could spell trouble for Los Blancos, although Jude Bellingham's return from injury could provide some solace.

In Mbappe's absence, Carlo Ancelotti could rely on Bellingham to help out the attack, much like last season. Meanwhile, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo continue to be important for the club.
