Real Madrid superstar Daniel Carvajal talks about his Ballon d'Or chances after Spain's Euro 2024 triumph
Real Madrid defender Daniel Carvajal has claimed that he is one of the candidates to win the 2024 Ballon d'Or award following Spain's UEFA Euro 2024 victory earlier past week.
Carvajal, 32, relished an excellent time for both his club and country in the recently concluded season. He helped Los Merengues win three trophies, including the La Liga title and the UEFA Champions League crown, while scoring once for Spain in their Euro 2024 win.
When queried whether he could be in the running to win the Ballon d'Or award this year, the 49-cap Spain international replied (h/t Yalla Sports):
"The Golden Ball? I think I could be among the candidates."
Last season, Carvajal was a vital reason behind Real Madrid's success. He made 41 appearances across competitions, starting 37 of them, and registered six goals and five assists for his club in the process.
Opining on his national team's Euro 2024 campaign, Carvajal added:
"We eliminated many candidates, and therefore we deserve to win the title."
Spain, who defeated England 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final, registered seven victories on the trot in the continental tournament in Germany.
Sergio Aguero names Real Madrid attacker as his favorite to win the 2024 Ballon d'Or
Manchester City great Sergio Aguero has backed Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior to win the Ballon d'Or award this year. He said (h/t MSN):
"Ballon d'Or? Vini Jr. didn't disappear in Copa America. It's just that Brazil is going through a tough time and he needs a good team. Looking at the whole season, VinĂ had an incredible run; this season, he was better than [Kylian] Mbappe."
Sharing further thoughts on the Brazilian's chances, Aguero continued:
"Every time Vini got the ball in the middle of the pitch, you could feel the danger. This season, Vini and [Jude] Bellingham were key for Real Madrid. I love Bellingham and would rather he got the Ballon d'Or, but you have to acknowledge that Vini was outstanding this season."
Vinicius, 24, cemented himself as a favorite to win the prestigious individual award after scoring the second goal Real Madrid's 2-0 UEFA Champions League final win over Borussia Dortmund. He scored 24 goals and provided 11 assists in 39 overall games last season.
The Flamengo youth product also bagged two goals in three matches at the Copa America 2024. But, his national side were knocked out at the quarter-final stage of the tournament at the hands of Uruguay.
