Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham offers light-hearted 2-word response when asked by fan to join Arsenal
Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has humorously responded to an Arsenal fan's request to join the Gunners. The 21-year-old Englishman hasn't played in the Premier League.
Following three fruitful seasons at Borussia Dortmund after arriving from Birmingham City in the summer of 2020, Bellingham joined Los Blancos last summer.
He enjoyed a dream debut season - scoring 23 times in 42 outings across competitions - as Carlo Ancelotti's side won three titles, including a second La Liga-UEFA Champions League double in three years. However, he has had a quiet start to an injury-plagued sophomore campaign, netting once in 13 games.
Bellingham is contracted to the Santiago Bernabeu till 2029, so any imminent move away, especially to the Emirates, appears remote. Nevertheless, the Englishman didn't shut out the door entirely on that possibility, responding to a Gunners fan about his potential arrival at the Emirates (as per ESPN via Arsenal Insider):
"Haha, maybe"
Regarded as one of the best young players in the game at the moment, Bellingham is a fixture with the England national team. He has won 40 caps and helped his team to consecutive European Championship finals, losing both.
What's next for Real Madrid and Arsenal?
Arsenal and Real Madrid are in the midst of decent, if not spectacular, seasons. Both clubs started their campaigns well before running out of steam recently, especially the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta's side have one win in their last five games across competitions and are winless in three, losing twice. They are coming off a 1-1 Premier League draw at Chelsea before the ongoing international break.
Following the stalemate, Arteta's side are fourth in the Premier League after 11 games, behind third-placed Chelsea on goal difference. They next take on Nottingham Forest at home in the league on Saturday (November 23).
Meanwhile, Real Madrid snapped a two-game losing streak across competitions with a 4-0 La Liga home win over Osasuna. They return to action following the international break with a trip to Leganes in the league on Saturday.
Both the Gunners and Los Blancos have European engagements following domestic assignments this weekend. While Arteta's side travel to Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League on November 26, Madrid travel to Premier League leaders Liverpool a day later.
Bellingham and Co. are 18th in the standings following two defeats in four games, while the Gunners (7) are 12th, a point ahead of Los Blancos.
