Real Madrid superstar ‘looking forward’ to ending his career in Saudi Arabia: Reports

According to Madrid Xtra on X (formerly Twitter), Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger is attracted to Saudi Arabia and is looking forward to ending his career in the Middle East.

The Germany international joined Los Blancos in 2022 as a free agent from Chelsea and has established himself as a key player in Carlo Ancelotti’s setup. After a relatively quiet debut season in Spain, Rudiger returned to his best form, securing a first-team spot in the 2023-24 season.

He played a huge role in Real Madrid’s league and Champions League triumph last term, contributing two goals and three assists in 48 games. This term, the 31-year-old continues to be a pivotal figure in defense for the Spanish club, featuring in all games across competitions and registering a goal.

Rudiger’s current contract does not expire until the summer of 2026. By then, the former Chelsea star would be 33 and nearing the final years of his career. According to the aforementioned report, the German fancies a move to Saudi Arabia where he would play out the rest of his career.

Since Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Al-Nassr in 2022, the Saudi Pro League has witnessed an influx of top European stars looking to wind down their career. Also, during the summer, it was reported that Al-Nassr were considering offering Rudiger a mega contract that would see him become the highest-paid footballer in his position.

There has also been some direct transfer from Real Madrid to Saudi Arabia in recent seasons. Karim Benzema and Nacho Fernandez joined Al-Ittihad and Al-Qadsiah, respectively, as free agents after running down their contracts with the La Liga outfit.

Real Madrid looking to bolster their defense with new signings

Real Madrid are currently in a defensive crisis and are eager to strengthen the department in 2025. While the club has enjoyed a relatively good start to the season, they have suffered multiple injury setbacks, majorly in defense.

David Alaba is still out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Jesus Vallejo has reportedly been told by the manager that he is not a part of his plans.

This leaves Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger as the only center-back options for manager Carlo Ancelotti, making the signing of a new defender a priority in the upcoming transfer window.
