Real Madrid talent Arda Guler joins Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney after achieving incredible feat in Turkey's win over Austria at Euro 2024
Turkey youngster Arda Guler has joined the elite company of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney following his exploits in Euro 2024. The 19-year-old has become only the third teenager in history to score and assist in the same European Championship campaign after Ronaldo and Rooney.
Guler has been exceptional in Euro 2024 as Turkey progressed to the quarter-finals. They have beaten the odds by progressing from the group stage with six points before beating Austria 2-1 in the Round of 16 on Tuesday, July 2.
Al-Ahli defender Merih Demiral scored twice (1 & 59) for Turkey, with Guler assisting the second goal. The Real Madrid youngster earlier scored one of the best goals of the tournament in Turkey's 3-1 group-stage win over Georgia.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney made history by being the first two teenagers to score and assist in the same Euro campaign. In Euro 2004, Ronaldo scored twice and provided two assists while Rooney scored four goals and provided one assist.
Arda Guler is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in world football and joined Real Madrid from Fenerbahce last summer. He only played 447 minutes of first-team football across 12 games in all competitions but impressed with six goals.
Turkiye will take on the Netherlands in the quarter-finals on Saturday, July 6. The Dutch beat Romania 3-0 in the Round of 16.
