Real Madrid Transfer News Roundup: Liverpool ace backed to join Los Blancos, club eyeing William Saliba, and more - September 10, 2024

Real Madrid are preparing for their upcoming La Liga tie against Real Sociedad at the Anoeta on Saturday, September 14. Carlo Ancelotti's team have already registered two draws this season and cannot afford to drop any more points.

Meanwhile, a Liverpool full back has been tipped to join Los Blancos. Elsewhere, the Spanish champions are planning a move for Arsenal's William Saliba.

On that note, let's look at the major Real Madrid transfer stories from September 10, 2024.

Trent Alexander-Arnold backed to join Real Madrid by former player

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness believes Trent Alexander-Arnold will eventually end up at the Santiago Bernabeu. The English right-back is in the final year of his contract with the Merseyside club and hasn't agreed to an extension yet.

Real Madrid are long-term admirers of the 25-year-old and are apparently plotting a Bosman move for the player in 2025. Dani Carvajal is in the final phase of his career and Alexander-Arnold has been identified as the ideal candidate to succeed the Spaniard at the club.

Speaking on the Up Front podcast, Souness insisted that his countryman will be a perfect fit for Los Blancos.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold is tailor-made for Real Madrid in the way he plays, he has an incredible style. Not to mention, he is good friends with Jude Bellingham. He could end up at Real Madrid. He would only leave Liverpool for Real Madrid,” said Souness.

The 25-year-old has appeared 313 times for the Red to date, scoring 19 goals and setting up 81 more.

Los Blancos eyeing William Saliba

Real Madrid are interested in William Saliba, according to Caught Offside. The French defender has been on a spectacular rise in recent seasons with Arsenal and is now among the finest defenders in Europe.

Los Blancos attempted to sign Leny Yoro without success this summer and remain in the market for defensive reinforcements. With Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba on the wrong side of 30, a long-term partner for Eder Militao is now a priority.

Saliba has been identified as the ideal candidate for the job. The 23-year-old is under contract at the Emirates until 2027, so prising him away won't be easy.

The Gunners would hate to see him go, although an offer north of €120m could do the trick. However, the La Liga giants will face competition from Paris Saint-German (PSG) and Bayern Munich for Saliba's services.

Erling Haaland in renewal talks with Manchester City, says Fabrizio Romano

Erling Haaland is already in talks with Manchester City regarding a new deal, according to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Norwegian forward is among the most dangerous strikers in world football at the moment and also has admirers at Real Madrid.

Los Blancos signed Kylian Mbappe to strengthen their attack this summer but lack a proper No. 9 in the squad. Haaland's arrival could complete the team and mark the start of a new 'Galacticos' era. There's also the prospect of seeing the Norwegian teaming up with Mbappe to tear defences apart.

Speaking on The Debrief podcast, Romano added that Haaland has a release clause in his contract.

“There have been talks already for months between Erling Haaland and Manchester City over a new deal. So this is the priority for City. It’s also an open negotiation with Haaland, who is very happy at the club. So they’ve been discussing now for months, almost six, seven months, discussing a new deal for Erling Haaland," said Romano.

He continued:

“At Manchester City, there are release clauses in the contract of Erling Haaland, but it’s not for a specific club. There will be, I think, a clause for his potential exit, but not only for Real Madrid."

He concluded:

“It will be an open clause and we will see the terms of this potential new deal. At the moment, the agreement is not reached yet, but there is a very good, positive conversation between the parties.”

The 24-year-old has scored 97 goals and registered 14 assists from 102 games for Manchester City to date.
