Real Madrid Transfer News Roundup: Los Blancos prioritizing Leny Yoro move, Newcastle United eyeing Ferland Mendy, and more - April 27, 2024

Real Madrid secured a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad on Friday, April 26, in La Liga. Arda Guler scored the game's only goal (29') to help his team edge closer to securing the league title.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos are prioritizing a move for Leny Yoro this summer. Elsewhere, Newcastle United are interested in Ferland Mendy.

On that note, here are the major Real Madrid transfer stories from April 27, 2024.

Real Madrid prioritizing Leny Yoro move

Real Madrid have made Leny Yoro their numero uno target this summer, according to journalist Jorge Picon. The French defender has been a rage this season for Lille, registering 41 appearances across competitions, all but four of which have been starts. His efforts have caused a stir at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the club eager to add more steel to their backline before the new campaign.

Los Blancos are working to secure the services of Kylian Mbappe this summer on a Bosman move. The La Liga giants are also heavily linked with a move for Alphonso Davies, who could leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season. However, it now appears that Real Madrid have shifted their focus from the Canadian to Yoro.

With Nacho Fernandez likely to leave, and Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba no longer young, a new defender is fast becoming an urgent requirement for Los Blancos. The French starlet has been identified as the ideal candidate for the job and the club are eager to get their hands on him as soon as possible.

Newcastle United are interested in Ferland Mendy, according to L'Equipe. The French left-back has blown hot and cold since arriving at Real Madrid a few summers ago. While his defensive contribution has rarely been questioned, Mendy's lack of attacking impetus has apparently prompted the club to look at Alphonso Davies. Their pursuit of the Canadian has raised doubts about the future of the 28-year-old.

The Magpies are attentive to the situation and are offering the player an escape route to the Premier League. Newcastle are looking for a new left-back this summer and are eyeing cost-effective options. Mendy's contract with the La Liga giants expires in 2025 and he could be available for a reduced fee this summer. However, there's likely to be a rush for the Frenchman's signature, with Manchester United and Arsenal also eyeing him with interest.

Former Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic wants Luka Modric to join him in Saudi Arabia. The 38-year-old is in the final months of his contract with Real Madrid and speculation is ripe regarding his next move. Modric has struggled for game time this season with Los Blancos and remains linked with an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, speaking to Arab News, Rakitic admitted that his countryman could also stay with Los Blancos.

"If you come to Saudi Arabia but don’t come to Al-Shabab, you’re going to have some problems with me!" said Rakitic.

He continued:

"If he decides to move, it would be fantastic. I would call him to try to do everything possible for Al-Shabab, for Saudi Arabia, to bring him to the Saudi Pro League, or give him all the information he may need. If he decides to stay in Madrid one more year, I think that enjoying Luka at the highest level would also be fantastic."

Modric has appeared 39 times across competitions this season, registering two goals and six assists.
