"Real quality" - Darren Bent says reported Liverpool target has enjoyed better Euro 2024 campaign than Cody Gakpo

Despite being the highest goalscorer at Euro 2024, Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo is not Darren Bent's favorite player at the tournament. The former English striker has revealed that he favors Germany star Jamal Musiala, appreciating his ability on and off the ball during the continental tournament in his home nation.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has been one of the stars for Die Mannschaft at the tournament, helping the hosts go unbeaten so far.

His abilities have impressed Bent, a 13-time England international. The former striker hailed the German playmaker for his performances at the tournament so far, saying (via HITC):

“So, my player of the tournament so far, I have gone for Jamal Musiala for Germany. I think he has been absolutely incredible. He has got a couple of goals as well. Just real quality. He has three goals in the tournament so far.

Bent concluded:

“Every single time he seems to get on the ball, it just gives everyone in that German team a lift. He can go past people. He can create. He’s quick and direct. I was going to go Cody Gakpo, who is having a really good tournament, but I am going to go for Jamal Musiala.”

Liverpool star Cody Gakpo and Jamal Musiala have been two of the best players at Euro 2024 with four and three-goal involvements, respectively. Both players will be keen to lead their nations to glory at the tournament and claim the trophy at the Olympiastadion on July 14.

Liverpool star Cody Gakpo believes the Netherlands are out to prove a point at Euro 2024

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo insists that the Netherlands are out to prove a point at Euro 2024 following their win against Romania in the Round of 16.

The Oranje are keen to claim European glory for the first time in over three decades and were glad to return to winning ways after their previous group-stage loss to Austria. The Liverpool forward told Germany's ARD network after his nation defeated Romania in the Round of 16:

"We played a good game - we showed a good reaction from the last match and I'm very pleased. We took a step in the right direction today. It's all about aggression and intensity and defending like a team and I think it was a good step and an important one."

Cody Gakpo added:

"I have lots of great memories, but now with this squad, we are trying to make new memories of our own."

The Liverpool star will hope to lead his nation to glory at the European Championship for the first time since 1988. His next game at Euro 2024 will be a quarter-final clash against a tricky Turkiye side at the Olympia-Stadion in Berlin on July 6.
