“Rio was a monster, was he your idol?” - Rio Ferdinand sends hilarious text message to Liverpool superstar Van Dijk from ex-Portugal star’s phone

Rio Ferdinand pulled off a hilarious prank as he texted Liverpool star Virgil Van Dijk from former Portugal defender Jose Fonte's smartphone in the latest podcast of Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE on YouTube. Ferdinand and radio host Roman Kemp welcomed Euro 2016 winner Fonte in the episode.

The three discussed miscellaneous topics, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe's mentality, Portugal's 2016 Euro run, Euro 2024 predictions, and Pepe's inhuman endurance and fitness, while also preparing their five-a-side teams for Euro 2024.

Right after a Dart and Spin the Wheel challenge, Rio Ferdinand and Roman Kemp implored Jose Fonte to text Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk from his smartphone. Ferdinand and Kemp took turns trying to come up with the best prank message to send to Van Dijk.

Rio Ferdinand wrote to the Dutchman from Fonte's phone:

"Watching some old Premier League games, Rio [Ferdinand] was a monster. Was he your idol growing up?”

Fonte requested them to pose for a photo as evidence to prove his innocence to Van Dijk.

"F*ck, please take a picture of all of us together [so that Van Dijk knows]," requested Fonte in a hilarious sequence of events.

Van Dijk is currently with the Dutch national team as they look to win their second European Championship.

The Netherlands pulled off an incredible comeback win (2-1) against Turkey in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 on Saturday, July 6. The Dutch were pushed to the backfoot after Samet Akaydin broke the deadlock in the 35th minute. Arda Guler's looping cross was inch-perfect as Akaydin made a perfect dash and headed the ball home.

The Netherlands equalized through Stefan de Vrij, who made a perfectly calculated jump to score via a header in the 70th minute.

The Dutch comeback was completed six minutes later as Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo's shot took a substantial deflection off Turkish defender Mert Muldur before going into the net.

The Netherlands will face England in the semi-finals of Euro 2024 on Wednesday, July 10.
