Robert Lewandowski heaps praise on Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Poland versus Portugal clash in UEFA Nations League

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski lavished praise on Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of their upcoming clash in the UEFA Nations League when Poland take on Portugal. The game is scheduled to be played on Saturday, October 12, at the National Stadium Warsaw.

Ahead of the game, the Polish striker was asked about his country's preparations for facing the Portuguese legend. Lewandowski said (via BarcaUniversal):

"When I prepare for a match like against Portugal, I only think about the strength of the team as a whole, not just one player.”
"I fully understand what Cristiano Ronaldo has achieved throughout his career, and how he has impacted the history of football with his achievements and numbers. This will certainly remain engraved in history”

Lewandowski added:

"Regardless of age, his numbers keep going up and not the other way around. Of course, he is an exception and there are very few exceptions like him."

During the previous international break, Ronaldo surpassed a remarkable milestone by becoming the first man to score 900 career goals in professional football.

The former Manchester United forward is Portugal's all-time top-scorer as he has netted 132 goals and registered 45 assists in 214 games for his country.

Ronaldo has netted two goals in two Nations League games as Portugal have registered six points out of a possible six. They beat Scotland and Croatia by scorelines of 2-1 each and are currently ranked first in the Group A standings.

Ahead of the clash between Portugal and Poland, Lewandowski has been in remarkable form for Barcelona, and his presence in attack will be crucial for his country.

The former Bayern Munich striker has been one of the most clinical attackers in Europe in the 2024-25 campaign, netting 12 goals and registering two assists in 11 games across competitions.

Poland are currently ranked third in the Group A standings with three points from two games. However, in the absence of a top-class defender like Pepe, who recently retired, Lewandowski could have a decent chance of destabilizing Portugal's defense, given his recent run of form.
