Roy Keane highlights how Guardiola was ‘clearly upset’ with Manchester City superstar in Community Shield win over Manchester United
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane noted how Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was upset with the performance of goalkeeper Ederson in City's 7-6 win on penalties over the Red Devils in the FA Community Shield on Saturday (August 10).
Speaking at halftime in ITV's coverage of the clash, Keane observed Guardiola arguing with City's goalkeeping coach Xabier Mancisidor. The coach seemed to be upset with Ederson when he kicked the ball out of the field at half-time.
“Pep is certainly frustrated obviously with the performance. They’re not as sharp as you’d expect them to be, but certainly upset with the goalkeeper.
"It was the goalkeeper coach he was arguing (with) going down (the tunnel). In other words, you have a word with that goalkeeper because he is giving it away so cheaply. It’s not like him.” Keane said.
Manchester City went on to win 7-6 on penalties following a 1-1 draw. Ederson redeemed himself in the shootout, saving Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans' penalties after City had trailed 3-1.
The Brazilian also scored one of the penalties against Red Devils goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola showers praises on Manchester United trio
Despite a 7-6 win on penalties over their local rivals Manchester United, City boss Guardiola praised the Red Devils trio of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes.
Speaking to ITV Sport after the clash, Guardiola said that the three players made life difficult for City.
“Both teams, both players… the ball was like a balloon. We lost a lot of balls, and in transition, they are one of the best teams in the world. With (Marcus) Rashford, with (Alejandro) Garnacho at the end, with the connection with especially Bruno (Fernandes)," the Spaniard said.
“They are so dangerous to control, but, in the end, we had a good action to equalise, and, in the penalties, we did it.” he added.
Manchester United opened the scoring through Garnacho in the 82nd minute following an incredible pass from Fernandes. However, Bernando Silva equlised seven minutes later, with Oscar Bob providing the assist.
