Roy Keane and Ian Wright blast Manchester United attacker's lacklustre display in front of goal at Euro 2024
Manchester United great Roy Keane and Arsenal legend Ian Wright have slammed Rasmus Hojlund for his poor display in Denmark's recent UEFA Euro 2024 clash.
Hojlund, 21, failed to convert any of his three shots in Denmark's 2-0 last-16 defeat against Germany in Dortmund on Saturday (June 29). The Manchester United man first hit the side netting after robbing Nico Schlotterbeck of the ball, then had a chip shot saved by Manuel Neuer, and lastly, fired his third shot straight at the Germany goalkeeper.
Speaking after the end of the Euro 2024 last-16 game at Signal Iduna Park, Keane hit out at Hojlund's decision-making. He said (h/t Metro):
"We said before the game, if he gets one or two chances, he has to be clinical. And he's not been. These are tough chances, not easy. This first one, he works hard to get it back, it is sloppy from Germany but he works hard to win it back and he gets in a great position. You have to go across goal. You might hit the target, the goalkeeper might save it, you might get a tap in, whatever."
Criticizing the Manchester United star, Wright pitched in and remarked:
"You talk about a player improving and learning new things but that is something you should know right from the start. For this second chance, he takes a little step just before he gets to the ball. That gives the goalie some time."
Opining on Hojlund's second shot in the Euro 2024 tie, Wright added:
"It's brilliant from the goalkeeper but he gives the goalkeeper that fraction of a second and that's all you need. The goalkeeper is waiting for anything then. The goalkeeper is committed at that point, he's down, you just have to try and get it over him."
Manchester United eyeing Euro 2024 star
According to Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United have enquired about Bologna forward Dan Ndoye's availability. They are likely to face competition from Inter Milan ahead of the next season.
Ndoye, 23, has impressed with his outings for Bologna since arriving from Basel in a £8 million transfer last summer. He has scored two goals and registered as many assists in 34 total games for his club so far.
The Manchester United target has bagged a goal for Switzerland at the Euro 2024 so far. He will next be in action for his national side in their Euro 2024 last-eight tie against either England or Slovakia on July 6.
