"Said it was a pity to share so little time together" - Alexis Mac Allister shares conversation he had with outgoing boss Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has provided a sneak peek of his interaction with former Reds boss Jurgen Klopp who left the club at the end of the 2023-24 season. Mac Allister played a lone season at Anfield under the German.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner had a decent first season with the Premier League giants since arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer. Mac Allister contributed seven goals and as many assists in 46 games across competitions, starting 40 times.
Now on Argentina duty ahead of their Copa America title defence, Mac Allister said (as per journalist Gaston Edul via Albiceleste Talk) that Klopp wished to have spent more time with him. Reiterating his happiness at the club, the player said:
"Klopp told me that I'm in the right club to grow. When he left, he gave me a hug and said it was a pity to share so little time together. I am happy and very comfortable at Liverpool."
In Klopp's final season in charge, Mac Allister and Co. won the EFL Cup but fell short in three other competitions despite being in contention for an unprecedented quadruple.
The Reds finished third in the Premier League - behind Manchester City and Arsenal - and crashed out in the quarterfinals to eventual winners Manchester United and Atalanta in the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League respectively.
What Alexis Mac Allister had said on joining Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool
Alexis Mac Allister - as mentioned earlier - arrived at Liverpool from Brighton last summer in a reported deal worth £35 million, which could rise a further £20 million due to add-ons.
Calling it a 'dream come true,' the FIFA World Cup winner said that he would look to build on a fabulous year that saw La Albiceleste end a 36-year drought to win the World Cup. Mac Allister said (as per BBC):
"It's a dream come true and I can't wait. I wanted to be in (from) the first day of pre-season, so it's good that everything is done. I'm looking forward to meeting my teammates.
"It was a fantastic year for me - World Cup, what we achieved with Brighton - but now it's time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day."
A year later, Mac Allister - contracted to Anfield till 2028 - will be keen to continue his good start to life at the club.
