"Sancho curse" "Old Trafford vibes" - Fans compare Euro 2024 stadium to Manchester United's ground as video of bizarre incident surfaces

Football fans flocked to X to mock the state of Borussia Dortmund's stadium - Signal Iduna Park. The ground hosted the Euro 2024 match between Turkiye and Georgia on Tuesday, June 18.

In a Group F game, debutants Georgia were up against a Turkiye side boasting several quality players.

Before the match began, the roof of the Signal Iduna Park was found to be leaking profusely as the rain fell in torrents, and the videos made their way to social media. The fans saw the funny side and made sure to make jest of the situation.

One fan said the leaking Signal Iduna Park reminded them of Manchester United's Old Trafford, which had the same problem a few weeks back.

"It's giving Old Trafford vibes."

Another user said it was the Jadon Sancho curse. The English forward joined the Red Devils from Dortmund in 2021 before re-joining the German club on loan in January after falling out with Erik ten Hag.

"Sancho curse."

Another fan took the opportunity to reference the Premier League side cheekily.

"A bit of Manchester came to Dortmund. Iykyk"

The fans were referring to Old Trafford, whose roof leaked uncontrollably when Manchester United hosted Arsenal on May 12. In the game, which the Gunners won 1-0, the roof leaked and the seats were left drenched during heavy rainfall.

Luckily for Turkiye and Georgia, the rain did not affect the game as they served up a Euro 2024 classic. Turkiye claimed a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Mert Muldur (25'), Arda Guler (65'), and Kerem Akturkoglu (90+7'), while Georges Mikautadze scored for Georgia (32').

Real Madrid youngster makes history in Euro 2024 clash

Highly-rated Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler showed exactly why he is considered one of the finest teenage footballers in the world. The 19-year-old started for Turkiye and scored in the second half, making history and emulating royalty.

Guler curled home a beauty from outside the box to become the youngest player to score on his debut in the competition. He also became only the third teenager to do so after Cristiano Ronaldo in 2004 and Ferenc Bene in 1964.

Arda Guler had to be patient in his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu after injuries limited his impact on the first team. Euro 2024 will provide him a chance to play regularly for his country and show what he is capable of at full flow.
