Scott McTominay makes feelings clear with response after being told about claims suggesting Manchester United were wrong to let him go
Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay has remained tight-lipped about claims insisting that Manchester United were wrong to offload the Scotsman.
McTominay, who helped the Red Devils lift two trophies, was offloaded to Napoli in a move worth up to £25 million earlier this August. The 27-year-old has opened the 2024-25 campaign on a great note at his new club, helping Antonio Conte's side sit atop the Serie A table.
So far this campaign, the Manchester United academy product has started eight of his 10 appearances across competitions for Napoli. He has scored three goals and provided two assists for his current club so far.
During an interview with The Times, McTominay was asked to offer his thoughts on latest claims about Manchester United ruing the decision to offload him. He replied (h/t United In Focus):
"I don't read the newspapers or social media. That's something I stay well away from. There's no reason for me to pay attention to that. The past is the past. I'm enjoying my football and just want to do everything in my power to push my team higher up the table and do my best for my manager in Italy as well."
McTominay, who has a contract until 2028 at Napoli, made 43 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils last campaign. He produced 10 goals and three assists in 27 total starts for his former club.
The right-footed tenacious midfielder will next feature for Napoli in the team's Serie A home encounter against AS Roma on Sunday (November 24).
Manchester United star opens up on his form
Earlier this August, Manchester United sealed Manuel Ugarte's services from Paris Saint-Germain in a potential £51 million move. However, the Uruguayan midfielder struggled to find his feet in the initial few months.
Ahead of Uruguay's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying contest against Colombia, the 23-year-old was queried to open up on his start to life at the Red Devils. He replied (h/t Metro):
"I feel very good now. It always takes time to adapt to the league, which I think is the best league in the world and that demands a lot from you. I am very happy with how we are doing with the club. There is a lot of optimism and I feel very good physically."
Ugarte, who previously played under new boss Ruben Amorim at Sporting CP, has started eight of his 11 overall outings for Manchester United.
