Serbia star hilariously fails to mimic iconic Cristiano Ronaldo's celebration as he falls to the floor in uncomfortable position after last-gasp goal
Serbia forward Aleksa Terzic had an embarrassing moment while trying to copy Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic 'Siu' celebration on Saturday, November 16. The RB Leipzig man scored an 88th-minute equalizer to steal a point against Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League Group D tie.
Serbia were trailing 1-0 after Zeki Amdouni sent the Swiss ahead in the 78th minute. However, Terzic finished off a late Serbian counter by curling in his shot past opposition goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
The 25-year-old attempted to celebrate by doing the 'Siu', made famous by Ronaldo. However, he got his measurements wrong, mistimed his jump, and crashed on the floor.
The player appeared visibly shaken even as his teammates hounded him. However, any concerns of an injury were brushed off as he managed to get up on his feet. However, the RB Leipzig forward was immediately hauled off by Serbian manager Dragan Stojkovic, who brought on Sasa Zdjelar to protect his backline.
Cristiano Ronaldo, interestingly, showcased the 'Siu' celebration during Portugal's 5-1 rout of Poland in the UEFA Nations League League A Group 1 tie last week. The 39-year-old scored from the spot in the 72nd minute.
Ronaldo then unleashed a stunning bicycle kick 15 minutes later to prove that age is just a number. However, he has been rested ahead of Portugal's game against Croatia on Monday, November 18.
When did Cristiano Ronaldo first use the 'Siu' celebration?
In 2019, Cristiano Ronaldo claimed that his famous 'Siu' celebration was conceived during a pre-season game against Chelsea during his Real Madrid days. The celebration is now a global phenomenon enacted by fellow footballers, athletes, and celebrities.
The Portuguese superstar said via GOAL he felt immense pride when people copied the 'Siu.'
"I started to say ‘si’, it’s like ‘yes’, when I was in Real Madrid. I was in the USA and we played against Chelsea and I don’t know where this is coming from, the celebration," said Ronaldo.
"I just scored the goal and it just came out. It was just natural, to be honest. Since that, I started to do it more often and I feel like the supporters and the fans see it and they’re like ‘Cristiano, siiiiiiuuuu’. I’m like ‘wow! People are reminded of me because of it!’ So it’s good, and I’ll continue doing it like that," he added.
Ronaldo has scored 910 goals from 1251 games in his career so far.
