“She wanted to kill me!” – Inter Miami star on how he forced wife to drop out of university to play with Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi's Inter Miami teammate, Facundo Farias, recently revealed that he had to force his wife to drop out of university in order to play alongside the Argentine legend.
Farias began his professional career at Argentinian club CA Colon during the 2019-20 season. Over the course of three seasons, he scored 16 goals and provided nine assists in 94 appearances.
The 21-year-old signed for Inter Miami earlier this year but had to get the green light from his wife before he could move away from Santa Fe.
Farias told The Athletic (via SPORTbible):
“She was studying her major but we had to move here," he said of his wife. "She wanted to kill me! But I told her, 'We’re going to play with Messi!'"
He also talked about how supportive his family were:
“We played with bare feet because we didn’t want to ruin the shoes that we had. My mother was always at my side... I grew up surrounded by love. My mom and my grandfather would always go to my games with me. My whole family has been a pillar of strength for me."
Farias has impressed for the Herons, alongside Lionel Messi. He has scored three goals and provided two assists in 12 appearances across all competitions, winning the Leagues Cup.
"Not normal" - Thierry Henry describes his favorite Lionel Messi goal for Barcelona
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry recently mentioned that his favorite Lionel Messi goal at Barcelona was during the Blaugrana's 6-0 home win against Malaga, back in 2009.
That goal saw Lionel Messi brilliantly receive the ball on the right flank following a Xavi Hernandez cross. The Argentine legend took the ball on his chest before making a bursting run centrally, taking two defenders out of the play.
He then used some exquisite footwork to dance around in the box before dispatching the ball into the top right corner from his right foot.
Henry praised Messi for his goal, saying (via Barca Blaugranes):
“That defied logic, what he did. You start the ball on your left foot here. How do you go back with that same leg, touch the ball in the air, in between the two (defenders) so make sure that guy doesn’t touch it? He almost fell, and he smashed it into the top corner. That’s not normal.”
Lionel Messi established himself as one of the greatest players of all time at Barcelona during his 17-year tenure at the club. He netted 672 goals and registered 303 assists in 778 appearances in total, the most in the club's history.
