Should Gareth Southgate remain as England manager? Alan Shearer makes his thoughts clear ahead of EURO 2024 final

Alan Shearer wants Gareth Southgate to continue as the England manager after the Euro 2024 final. The Three Lions are set to play Spain in the summit clash on Sunday, July 14.

Southgate has been in charge of England since September 2016. He helped the team reach the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the final at Euro 2020, the quarter-final at World Cup 2022, and now the Euro 2024 final.

While England are yet to win a trophy under Southgate, he has shown consistency in helping the team reach the decisive stages of competitions. Shearer has claimed that the decision is on Southgate about what he wants to do with his future.

However, the iconic striker wants Southgate to stay as he reckons he could guide England to possible glory at the 2026 World Cup in the United States. Shearer told betting.betfair:

"I'd like to see Gareth Southgate stay on as England manager. If England win Euro 2024, how can you walk away from a team that could potentially win the World Cup in two years time? It will be a huge decision, but he'll do what'ss right for him and what's right for his family."

Gareth Southgate's current contract is set to expire on December 31, 2024. The Euro 2024 final's result, though, could have massive implications for his future.
