"Should have scored maybe five or six goals" - Agbonlahor names Arsenal star in his Euro 2024 team of the tournament so far

Former England and Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has named Arsenal forward Kai Havertz in his Euro 2024 team of the tournament. The versatile attacker has been in excellent form for Germany in the tournament, having netted twice in four games while producing one assist.

Germany have enjoyed a pretty solid Euro 2024 campaign and have comfortably made their way to the quarter-finals. They won two of their three-group stage games while drawing another before beating Denmark 2-0 in the Round of 16.

Gabby Agbonlahor has heaped praise on Kai Havertz for how well he has led the line for Germany in the Euros. However, the pundit insisted that the Arsenal star could have scored more had he been more clinical. The former England striker said:

“This was hard because no one has really stood out in the striker position. I was going to pick a false nine but I didn’t want to get hammered so I’ve gone with Havertz. Scored two penalties, should have scored maybe five or six more goals this tournament."
"I mean, last night [against Denmark on Saturday], the header… anywhere else but straight at the goalkeeper and he scores. The one where he tries to dink the keeper, he’s got to finish that a bit more clinical. Late on in the game as well there was a chance where he ran through where he could have shot and scored but he hit the keeper and missed."

Agbonlahor continued:

"But I have been impressed with him. He can frustrate you at times, I feel, but when he’s on it, he can be sharp and hold the ball up. Even for the chance he had yesterday, his touch when he got the ball played into him. That was an unbelievable touch to get past [Joachim] Andersen and run through. So, I think Havertz has been the standout striker.”

Havertz enjoyed a solid season with Arsenal last time out, scoring 14 goals and providing seven assists in 51 appearances across competitions.

Germany will face a huge test in the quarter-finals where they will take on Spain who have arguably been the best team in the Euros. La Furia Roja made their way into the last eight by beating Georgia quite comfortably with a 4-1 scoreline.

Arsenal have made enquiry regarding Liverpool target who has been excellent in Euro 2024: Reports

Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry about Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori who has also been linked with a switch to Liverpool. The 22-year-old has been a player in demand of late following a stellar season with Bologna.

Calafiori enjoyed a brilliant Euro 2024 campaign with Italy but the Azzurri crashed out in the Round of 16, with Calafiori suspended for the game. Luciano Spalletti's side suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Switzerland as Calafiori missed with a red card suspension.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal have made an enquiry regarding the versatile defender who can play either at left-back or centre-back. Romano told Give Me Sport:

"For Calafiori, Arsenal made an enquiry to understand the situation of the player. I mean, it's also normal when you are looking for a left-footed player, a left-foot defender. Riccardo Calafiori is one of the best available now on the market."
"So Arsenal have been showing their interest in the situation. But at the moment, it's not a negotiation. There is no bid, there is no contact with Bologna, so it's just an enquiry to understand the situation of Calafiori."

Calafiori joined Bologna last summer from FC Basel in a deal worth £3 million and enjoyed a brilliant campaign. He made 37 appearances for Thiago Motta's side scoring twice and providing five assists.
