“Should’ve retired last year”, “Too useless in this team” - Fans slam Liverpool superstar for poor performance in 1-0 loss vs Nottingham Forest
Fans had a go at Liverpool's Andrew Robertson after they lost 1-0 against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on September 14 at Anfield. It also marked their first Premier League defeat under newly appointed manager Arne Slot.
The visitors went ahead in the 72nd minute courtesy of a right-footed bullet by substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi. Receiving a perfectly measured through ball from Anthony Elanga, the Englishman unleashed the shot from the edge of the penalty box. The ball cannoned off the bar and hit the net to make it 1-0 for Nottingham Forest.
For Liverpool, Andrew Robertson failed to make any significant impact on the field. The Scot didn't register a single tackle, long ball, or an interception throughout the game. Additionally, he lost possession six times and was substituted in the 75th minute by Konstantinos Tsimikas.
Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize Andrew Robertson.
"What is robertson still doing playing should’ve retired last year," wrote one fan on X.
"Robertson is too useless in this team," agreed another.
"Robertson has no technical ability to be covering half spaces man," opined one fan on X.
"Robertson is so obviously our weakest link in possession. He’s so ridiculously stiff," posted another fan.
Many fans analyzed Robertson's game, slamming his reluctance to cover the whole length of the pitch and lack of passing range.
"All Robertson does is run around a little and pass to the nearest player to him. If we don’t get a LB next summer I’m gunna cry," one fan wrote on X.
"Robertson jogging back after we lost the ball as if there’s no defending to do, get Tsimikas on," observed another.
"Robertson I never want to see again in a Liverpool shirt," wrote one netizen.
Despite dominating possession (70%), the Reds were wasteful in front of goal. They recorded a total of just five shots on target out of 14 attempted.
In comparison, the visitors could hit just five shots, but three of them were on target. The Reds also dominated in the number of fouls committed, getting penalized 15 times compared to Nottingham Forest's six.
What's next for Liverpool this season?
Arne Slot's Liverpool have enjoyed quite a flamboyant start to the Premier League 2024-25 season with three wins out of four games. The Reds are currently second on the Premier League table with nine points, bested only by Pep Guardiola's Manchester City with 12.
One of their most iconic victories under Arne Slot's new reign was the 3-0 domination of Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 1. Luis Diaz's brace (35' and 42') and Mohamed Salah's goal (56') helped the Reds demolish Erik ten Hag's Manchester United at home.
Liverpool's next match will mark the start of their UEFA Champions League 2024-25 campaign. The Reds will face AC Milan at the San Siro on September 17.
