"Silva penalty needs to be added to Man City’s 115 charges" - Top 10 funniest memes as Real Madrid knock Manchester City out of UCL

Manchester City crashed out of the UEFA Champions League after suffering a 4-3 loss on penalties to Real Madrid after a 1-1 (4-4 aggregate) draw at the Etihad. Fans have joked about Pep Guardiola's side failing to advance to the semifinals with Bernardo Silva missing an awful spot kick.

The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute when Rodrygo continued his fine goalscoring form. The Brazilian netted after linking up with Vinicius Junior and Federico Valverde.

It was pretty much all Manchester City from that point as they conjured up 33 shots to Real Madrid's eight. They went agonizingly close in the 19th minute when Erling Haaland's header hit the bar and Silva somehow missed on the follow-up.

The Cityzens went close again in the 51st minute when Kevin De Bruyne played Haaland through on goal. Nacho Fernandez did tremendously to steer the ball to safety on the back foot.

Manchester City's persistence finally paid dividends in the 76th minute and De Bruyne grabbed himself a deserved equalizer. The Belgian playmaker pounced after Antonio Rudiger deflected Jeremy Doku's cross into his path.

De Bruyne made no mistake in beating Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin with a fierce effort. The hosts looked likely to secure a comeback victory but couldn't get the job done.

There were tired legs during extra time as the two European giants ventured towards penalties. Real Madrid showed improvement and perhaps capitalized on the amount of energy used by Guardiola's men during regulation time.

However, neither of them managed to grab a winner and the tie went to penalties. It would be a dramatic back-and-forth between two of Europe's big guns.

Julian Alvarez put City in front with a composed finish. Luka Modric stepped up and many would've felt the iconic Croatian would find the net.

However, Modric's tame effort was denied by Cityzens goalkeeper Ederson. This gave Silva the chance to put the reigning European champions 3-1 up.

There was a pause due to fans holding onto the ball which made Silva wait. The Portuguese playmaker may have been put off by the delay as his effort was the worst penalty of the night.

Silva sent the ball straight down Lunin's goal with no power or pace on the ball. It was an odd attempt from the usually deadly Portugal international.

Jude Bellingham grabbed hold of the ball and slammed in Real Madrid's equalizer. Mateo Kovacic failed to get Manchester City back in front as his effort was saved by Lunin.

Lucas Vazquez, Phil Foden, Nacho, and Ederson (superbly as well) slotted home their penalties. It was up to Antonio Rudiger to put Los Blancos in the Champions League semifinals and he did just that with a fine penalty.

Manchester City were viewed as favorites to win the competition and social media has been rife with jokes at their expense.

One fan joked that Silva's miss should be punished:

"That Bernardo Silva penalty needs to be added to Man City's 115 charges."

Jude Bellingham sheds light on hilarious exchange ahead of Real Madrid's win vs Manchester City

Bellingham has been a joy to watch this season with inspired performances for Real Madrid. The English superstar will play in his first Champions League semifinals when Los Blancos face Bayern Munich in the next round.

The England international has been handed a new No.10 role by Ancelotti which has been hugely impactful. He's wowed fans with 20 goals and 10 assists in 35 games across competitions.

However, Ancelotti appeared to be needing Bellingham to excite him to keep him awake for tonight's game. Real Madrid's top scorer told TNT Sports after the win:

"Before the game I saw Carlo yawning. I asked what’s up. He said you need to go excite me out there."

Ancelotti, a four-time Champions League winner, isn't getting tired of success at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Italian became the first manager in the competition's history to knock Guardiola out on three occasions.
