"Sometimes in life, things are out of control" - 23-year-old star shares heartfelt farewell message as he leaves Barcelona
Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest has bid adieu to the club as he penned a message on social media. Having arrived at the Camp Nou in October 2020, the USNMT international spent the last two seasons on loan.
Dest, 23, contributed three goals and four assists in 72 games across competitions, with his last game for the club coming in the 2021-22 season in La Liga.
He spent the 2023-24 season on loan at AC Milan, where he played 14 times across competitions, making no goal contribution. Last season, Dest had two goals and seven assists in 37 games across competitions - on loan - with PSV Eindhoven, who won the Eredivisie and the Johan Cryuff Shield.
After joining the reigning Eredivisie champions on a free transfer, the 23-year-old reminsced his 'great' time at Barca as he thanked everyone during his journey. Dest tweeted:
"An amazing club with such a nice history! I would have liked to see it differently, but, sometimes, in life, things are out of your control. I had a great time, especially the first 2 years, and would like to thank everyone who supported me. Gracias por todo (Thanks everyone)!"
The 23-year-old will now look to continue his good start to life in Dutch football.
"PSV believes in me, and I'm greatly appreciated here" - Former Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest
Sergino Dest has joined PSV - where he was on loan last season - on a free transfer, as mentioned previously. That has been reported by Barcelona (via ESPN) last month.
The USNMT international has reportedly signed a four-year contract with the Eredivisie side. Dest said in a statement after his transfer got confirmed (as per ESPN):
"First of all, PSV believes in me, and I am greatly appreciated here. I got to know the club, and it is incredibly warm, like I have never experienced anywhere before.
"Those are important aspects for someone in my situation and give me confidence that I can rehabilitate well here. I'm really looking forward to getting minutes again, being important and winning more titles."
Earnie Stewart, PSV's director of football, explained the rationale behind signing the former Barca player:
"We have discussed it internally, but Sergino convinced us so much last season that we absolutely did not want to miss the opportunity to sign him on a full time basis.
"He has so many qualities. The (injury) situation doesn't change that. He played an important role in the 25th national title. His arrival is a very good start to the transfer window."
The former Barcelona player will look to put his injury issues behind him and hit the ground running in his first full season as a PSV player.
