Spain or England? Son Heung-min and other Tottenham stars name their favorite to win Euro 2024
Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min and his teammates predicted the winner of the UEFA Euro 2024 final between Spain and England. The two sides will clash at the Olympiastion Berlin on Sunday, July 14.
During their morning interaction with the club's social media executive ahead of training, Tottenham players were asked for their predictions. Club captain Son hoped the Three Lions would win for Spurs legend Harry Kane as he said:
"Spain, I think have had an amazing tournament. But I wish England to win because Harry to win it. The best England player in history."
Kane and Son formed a lethal partnership during their time together at Tottenham, combining for 54 goals in 298 games across competitions. They hold the record for most goal combinations in Premier League history with 47 goals in 229 appearances.
Kane is also Spurs' all-time top scorer with 280 goals and 61 assists in 435 games. He joined Bayern Munich last season for a reported fee of €100 million plus add-ons.
Meanwhile, most of the other Tottenham players also backed England to win the Euro 2024 final against Spain. English midfielder James Maddison said:
"England of course. It's coming home."
Timo Werner, Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, Brandon Austin, Yves Bissouma, and English striker Dane Scarlett all backed the Three Lions. Meanwhile, Emerson Royal, Alejo Veliz, and Spanish winger Bryan Gil backed Spain to win.
Harry Kane chases Golden Boot as England come one step closer to Euro 2024 trophy
The Three Lions haven't had the best tournament in terms of performance but still find themselves just one step away from their first-ever Euros trophy. They managed just one game in the Euro 2024 group stage, which came against Serbia as they drew against Denmark and Slovenia.
Gareth Southgate's side were on the verge of elimination in the Round of 16 as they found themselves 1-0 down against Slovakia. However, Jude Bellingham scored an overhead kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time before Harry Kane scored the winner in extra time.
They then beat Switzerland on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes before getting past the Netherlands 2-1 in the semi-finals. They will now face Spain in the final in Berlin on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Three Lions' all-time top scorer Harry Kane (66 goals) is chasing the Euro 2024 Golden Boot as well. He's joint top with a number of players, having scored three goals. He will hope to score in the final to help his side lift their first major trophy in men's football since the 1966 World Cup.
