Spain star Pedri set to miss remainder of Euro 2024 as details of injury during quarter-final vs Germany come to light in report

Pedri is reportedly set to miss the remainder of Euro 2024 after picking up an injury in Spain's quarter-final clash against Germany on July 5, at MHPArena in Stuttgart. The 21-year-old midfielder left the pitch in tears after being subbed off within the first 10 minutes of the match.

The Barcelona star went down after facing a challenge from German midfielder Toni Kroos. The veteran stretched his left leg out while he was dribbling through the pitch, and Pedri tripped. Kroos wasn't given a yellow card for the foul while the Spaniard couldn't continue playing and was replaced by Dani Olmo in the eighth minute.

Pedri has sustained an internal lateral sprain of his left knee, and will not be able to play further in Euro 2024, as per Alfredo Martínez. More tests will be conducted to rule out associated injuries.

The 21-year-old Barcelona midfielder, who made his senior debut for Spain in 2021, has netted two goals and provided two assists in 23 appearances for his nation. He also maintained a 94.75% passing accuracy as per UEFA's official website statistics.

Meanwhile, after a goalless first half, Spain opened their scoring with Dani Olmo's goal in the 51st minute from an assist by right winger Lamine Yamal. Florian Wirtz found the equalizer for Germany in the 89th minute with an assist by Joshua Kimmich, taking the match to extra time.

Mikel Merino then scored an incredible header in the 119th minute. Dani Carvajal received his second yellow card in the fifth minute of stoppage time in extra time and will miss the semi-final.


Pedri's comments on Antonio Rudiger ahead of Euro 2024 clash between Spain and Germany

Pedri spoke about German defender Antonio Rudiger's antics on the pitch ahead of their Euro 2024 quarter-final clash. The Spaniard mentioned that the Real Madrid defender's pinching to be annoying and disrespectful while also appreciating his skills. The Barcelona star said (via All Football):

"He is a powerful and very good central defender, but you are not afraid of him. The pinching thing seemed like a lack of respect to me because it hurts and it's annoying."

Spain has won the UEFA European Championship thrice in 1964, 2008, and 2012 while Germany have also claimed the title thrice in 1972, 1980, and 1996.
