“Spain are not unbeatable” - Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman says there are no clear ‘favorites’ to win Euro 2024
Netherlands national team head coach Ronald Koeman believes that there are no clear "favorites" to win Euro 2024, adding that Spain are not undefeatable in the Championship. Oranje are currently atop Group D, which also includes France, Austria, and Poland.
Ronald Koeman explained why he does not have any favorites in this year's tournament and said (via @TheEuropeanLad on X):
"I don't see many favorites this tournament. I saw Germany play last night and Switzerland clearly gave them a hard time."
When asked about Spain's chances in Euro 2024, he said:
"Maybe they been the most impressive, but that would only be based on 2 games. Spain are not unbeatable."
Luis de la Fuente's squad are in Group B with Italy, Croatia, and Albania, and bagged wins against Croatia and Italy in their first two games of the tournament. They went in with a 1-0 lead at half-time in their ongoing clash against Albania and look set to end the group stage as table-toppers.
The Netherlands, on the other hand, secured a 2-1 win against Poland in their tournament opener and held favorites France to a 0-0 draw in their second match. They will end their group stage with a clash against Austria on Tuesday, June 25.
Luis de la Fuente on Spain's win against Italy in Euro 2024
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente shared his opinion on his squad's performance after they bagged a 1-0 win against Italy in Euro 2024 on June 20 at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.
After a goalless first half, La Roja got their winning goal through Italian centre-back Riccardo Calafiori's own goal in the 55th minute. Luis de la Fuente said about his team's performance (via @FootEnEspagne on X):
"I am delighted and proud to have won against the current European champion in the way we did."
"I continue to think, as before I started, that there is no better selection than ours," added Luis de la Fuente.
La Roja will be playing in the Euro 2024 Round of 16 on June 30 at RheinEnergieStadion with the opponent team yet to be decided based on the result of the match between Croatia and Italy.
