“Stop everything; I’ll score 2 goals, and we’ll win” - Ex-Real Madrid star opens up on match-winning Cristiano Ronaldo moment in Champions League
Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas recalled how once Cristiano Ronaldo instructed him to not let the ball go into their net and that he would handle everything up front.
In a post made by Madrid Xtra on X, Navas mentioned:
"I remember a match in the Champions League, very difficult. The first half was done. … and we were in the tunnel, and Cristiano said: ‘Vamos, you need to keep a clean sheet. Don’t let any ball go in; stop everything. I will score 2 goals, and we will win the game, and we won."
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best match winners in world football. Be it for his country Portugal or for the clubs he has played for, he has rosen to the occasion when the situation has demanded.
Ronaldo is a legend of not only the sport but also the UEFA Champions League, which he has won five times, emerging as the highest goal-scorer on seven occasions. Four of his wins came while he was at Real Madrid, while the first was with Manchester United, who beat Chelsea on penalties in the 2008 final.
Meanwhile, Keylor Navas signed for Real Madrid in 2014 and played for them till 2019, winning three straight Champions League titles (2016-18) under the legendary Zinedine Zidane.
After Real Madrid parted ways with Iker Casillas after a remarkable 16-year stint, Navas filled up the void admirably and emerged as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.
