"Sums up City this year" - Fans react as 4 Manchester City stars miss pens consecutively without keeper in net during training session
Fans took to X to express their astonishment after a video surfaced showing four Manchester City players attempting penalties during training with no goalkeeper in the net. Remarkably, all four players missed the unguarded target.
Manchester City have been on a poor run of form with just one win in their last nine matches across competitions. They are currently fourth on the Premier League table with 27 points after 15 matches. City's most recent match ended in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s men will next face Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday. Their pre-match training session, which is accessible to the media, became a topic of conversation among fans on social media as four players missed an open goal from the penalty spot.
Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Ilkay Gundogan, and Erling Haaland all shot the ball from the penalty spot with the post unguarded, but they all missed the target. Foden skied his effort, Gundogan side-footed his effort wide of the post, Grealish also skied his effort, while Haaland curled his past the top corner.
After the video went viral on social media, the BBC confirmed that the players were aiming for the woodwork. However, that didn’t stop fans from sharing their opinions. Here is how fans reacted to the footage on X (formerly Twitter):
''That sums up city this year,'' a user wrote.
Another tweeted:
''How does every player miss?!?''
''Now we understand why they are losing the games'' @akhilb_007 quipped
''How tf is that possible'' @CFC_SPECTOR wrote
''Is this a joke or what'' @A_lumicoma added
''Nah we re absolutely cooked'' @CTYfrnk chimed in
Pep Guardiola provides update on the availability of Manchester City duo after their return to training
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided an update on the availability of Mateo Kovacic for the match against Juventus. A few hours ago, it was reported that Kovacic and Foden were seen training alongside the rest of their teammates on Tuesday ahead of City’s flight to Italy.
Their return will undoubtedly provide a huge boost for the Cityzens, who have been plagued by injuries this season. In the pre-match press conference, Pep Guardiola was asked whether either player could be heavily involved for City’s match in Turin on Wednesday. He said (via the club’s website):
“I don’t think so. Maybe a few minutes for (Mateo) Kova, but I don’t think so. But it’s nice to have them (Kovacic and Phil Foden) back here to the team, to the training sessions, and to travel with us (to Turin, Italy).”
