Surprise Barcelona star only behind Kylian Mbappe in terms of clocking fastest sprint speed at Euro 2024
Barcelona star Ferran Torres has ranked only behind Kylian Mbappe in terms of sprinting speed at Euro 2024, according to a statistic shared by Diario SPORT.
Torres recorded a sprinting speed of 36km/hr against Germany in the Euro 2024 quarter-final clash, while Mbappe pipped the Spaniard with a sprinting speed of 36.5 km/hr.
Ferran Torres delivered a steady performance against Germany after coming off the bench to replace Lamine Yamal in the 63rd minute. The 24-year-old missed one big chance but recorded a 92% passing accuracy, per Sofascore. However, his speed was noteworthy and could benefit Spain in the business end of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe has had an underwhelming run at Euro 2024. The Frenchman scored a penalty against Poland in the group stage but has failed to find the net since then. The speed demons will come up against each other in the semi-final of the tournament during Spain's clash against France on July 10.
Kylian Mbappe calls Barcelona star Jules Kounde "boss" after Euro 2024 win against Portugal
After France's 5-3 win on penalties over Portugal in the Euro 2024 quarter-final on July 5, Barcelona star Jules Kounde shared a post on Instagram celebrating his team's qualification to the semis.
Kylian Mbappe was quick to offer words of appreciation for his teammate in the comments, referring to him as the "boss." William Saliba also used the same word to describe Kounde, while Theo Hernandez reacted with an emoji.
Mbappe calling the Barcelona defender 'boss' is understandable, given his incredible performance vs Portugal. Although France were unable to find the net, Kounde was one of the reasons the French defense did not crumble under pressure despite multiple chances for the Portuguese to score.
The Frenchman made four clearances, five important tackles and lost possession only 14 times during the game. He also converted his penalty kick during the shootout.
Following France's Euro 2024 run, Kounde and Mbappe will likley share the pitch together more often, although this time for opposing teams. Mbappe signed for Barcelona's rivals Real Madrid last month after leaving Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.
