"Taken memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life" - Van Nistelrooy sends message ahead of last game as Manchester United boss
Manchester United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy has sent a message to the club's fans ahead of his last game as interim manager. The former Netherlands international was asked to fill in after Erik ten Hag was sacked following the loss to West Ham United on October 28.
Now, the Manchester outfit have appointed Sporting CP manager appointed Ruben Amorim as the club's new head coach. The Portuguese tactician is set to take over at Old Trafford from November 11 onwards.
Van Nistelrooy's last game as interim boss of Manchester United will be their home game against Leicester City on Sunday, November 10. Ahead of this fixture, the Dutchman said (via Samuel Luckhurst's X account):
"United fans have always held a special place in my heart but I can honestly say that my love for you all has only grown during this period. The support i have had from the stands at Old Trafford has been fantastic and I have taken memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life."
Van Nistelrooy has had a fairly successful stint as Red Devils' interim boss, remaining undefeated in his fixtures in charge. He first recorded a 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup Round of 16. He then played out a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
His Manchester United side secured all three points against PAOK in the Europa League, winning 2-0 at home on Thursday, November 7.
Ruud van Nistelrooy reacts when asked if he's contacted incoming Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim
Manchester United have seemingly made an impressive appointment in bringing Sporting boss Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford. Currently, the latter's team are top of the league standings in Portugal, three points clear of second-placed Porto.
Before joining the Red Devils, Amorim will look to ensure the best result for his team when they face Braga away on Sunday (November 10). Acknowleding the fact that the 39-year-old is focused on his final match in Portugal, Van Nistelrooy said to the press when asked if he's contacted Amorim (via Sky Sports):
"I've got to check my phone now. So I will do so later."
Manchester United certainly need to better their form in the league season once Amorim comes in. At the moment, the Red Devils are 13th, but they're only six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
