“Ten Hag ruined Ronaldo’s time at United” - Piers Morgan aims dig at Manchester United boss after Salah fury following West Ham draw
TV presenter Piers Morgan pointed finger at Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag for sabotaging Cristiano Ronaldo's second spell at Old Trafford. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner had a controversial interview with Morgan, which led to him leaving the club back in December 2022.
There was verbal fury between Mohamed Salah and Jurgen Klopp on the touchline during Liverpool's 2-2 draw against West Ham United.
Following the controversy between the pair, Morgan has now invited Salah for an interview similar to how the former United superstar appeared to talk about his time time Ten Hag.
Piers Morgan tweeted:
"Time for an interview @MoSalah??"
In response to this invitation, one of the fans replied stating that the interview resulted in the Portugal skipper leaving Manchester United:
"The interview was what ruined Ronaldo’s time at United."
Piers Morgan, however, still firmly believes that it was Erik ten Hag's poor man management that led to Cristiano Ronaldo quitting halfway through the season. In response to the tweet, the renowned TV presenter said:
"No, Ten Hag ruined Ronaldo’s time at United. They should have kept @Cristiano and got rid of a manager who hasn’t a clue how to handle top players."
Despite a fierce clash on the touchline, Jurgen Klopp didn't want to create a big fuss about the same. The outgoing Liverpool managed was quoted saying the following after the game (via Sky Sports):
"We spoke already in the dressing room. For me, that's done."
The Reds have dropped further points in the title race and it now seems highly unlikely that they would be able to win the Premier League in Klopp's final season.
Cristiano Ronaldo was not getting enough game time under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United
Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United in the summer of 2021. Despite having a great first season at the club, the former Real Madrid superstar was not seen as a first-choice forward under new manager Erik ten Hag for the 2022-23 season.
It felt like the Portugal forward was not fitting into Ten Hag's style of play. This resulted in his game time dwindling in his second season.
He made just 16 appearances for Manchester United before his departure and only contributed three goals and two assists across all competitions. Most of his starts were in the UEFA Europa League while he was only named in the starting XI four times in the Premier League.
This bit-part role did not go down well with the legendary forward who then went on to give a controversial interview with Piers Morgan. Ronaldo went on to say against the club owners and manager Erik ten Hag, which did not go down well with Manchester United.
The club mutually terminated his contract, which saw the star forward join Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr on a free transfer. He is currently on the verge of completing his first full season in the Middle East.
As things stand, the former Manchester United forward has contributed 36 goals and 12 assists from 37 matches across all competitions.
