"Thank you for this chapter in my life" - Erik Ten Hag writes emotional letter on social media to Manchester United fans

Erik ten Hag has penned a farewell message to Manchester United fans after he was relieved of his duties on October 28. The Dutch manager expressed his gratitude to the Red Devils and thanked them for their support in his two-year stint at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag, who joined Manchester United from Ajax in 2022, kicked off his 2024-25 campaign with the Red Devils shambolically. He only won 3 games in nine matches in the Premier League this season. Consequently, Manchester United were left languishing in the 14th position on the Premier League table. The final straw came after the 2-1 defeat against West Ham United on October 27, which made United’s hierarchy part ways with him.

Erik ten Hag wrote in a lengthy post to appreciate Manchester United fans:

“A message from Erik ten Hag:
"Dear fans, Let me start by thanking you. Thank you for always being there for the club. Whether it was at a game far away or a tough match at Old Trafford, your support has been unshakeable. The atmosphere at Old Trafford has always been electrifying, thanks to you. I felt it many times. Also in away games, it gave the team and me an incredible feeling to hear the United chants taking over the opponents’ stadiums, whether the game was in England, Europe or during the summer tours.
''I always enjoyed meeting Manchester United fans throughout the world. Walking the streets and being able to chat with fans in England, Europe, Asia, Australia, the USA - you inspired me and radiated a strong sense of unity. That’s what makes United supporters so special.
''I want to thank you for giving me this feeling and for your support. I also want to thank the staff in every department of the club for their unwavering support in good times and bad. We won two trophies - achievements that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Of course, my dream was to bring more trophies to the cabinet. Unfortunately, that dream has come to an end.
''I wish all Manchester United fans nothing but success, trophies and glory. Your support and the warmth I received from everyone at the club helped me feel at home.
''Thank you for this chapter in my life. Erik”.

Despite Ten Hag’s quite disappointing campaign at United, he won a trophy in each of his last two seasons at the club — the EFL Cup and FA Cup.

What next for ex-Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag?

After United parted ways with Erik ten Hag, the Dutch manager is currently without a club. Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford came under intense scrutiny after he took the Red Devils to a new low in the Premier League. He finished eighth in the Premier League table, which was the club’s worst-ever finish in the Premier League era.

While Ten Hag is currently without a club, Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in him. BVB are considering bringing the Dutch manager to Signal Iduna Park to replace Nuri Sahin.

It remains to be seen if Dortmund will make a move to Ten Hag. While things took a twist in the tale for Ten Hag at United, he had a bright tenure at Ajax. During his time at the Dutch capital, he won three Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups, and one Dutch Super Cup.
