"Thanks to the fans that stood by me" - Manchester United star Marcus Rashford confirms big decision to 'reset' this summer

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford stated on Monday, May 27, that he will be leaving social media temporarily in order to "rest and reset mentally". The forward has not had an easy campaign with the Red Devils, as he managed only seven Premier League goals and two assists in 33 appearances.

Injuries have also hampered the squad at Old Trafford, as they collectively struggled to meet expectations this campaign. They crashed out of the Champions League in the group stages and finished eighth in the Premier League, their worst-ever finish in the competition. However, they did beat rivals Manchester City on Saturday to lift the FA Cup trophy.

It was a difficult season for Rashford, who received a lot of backlash and criticism for his poor performances this season. This has led to the 26-year-old defending himself and his commitment to the club on social media. However, he has now opted to set socials aside this summer, writing (via Manchester Evening News):

"It's time to come off socials for a few weeks. I plan to rest and reset mentally after a challenging season individually and collectively. Thanks to the fans that stood by me through a difficult period. To the ones that didn’t just remember at United, we always stick together. [prayer hands emoji]."

Marcus Rashford was notably left out of England's preliminary squad for the Euros this summer, with Gareth Southgate choosing to pick based on form.

Manchester United legend hails Kobbie Mainoo after impressive FA Cup performance

Manchester United Legend Wayne Rooney has hailed midfielder Kobbie Mainoo for his performance in their FA Cup final win against Manchester City. The youngster broke into the Red Devils' first team and has had a magical debut season with his boyhood club.

Mainoo scored United's second goal against City in the 39th minute after a flowing move from back to front as they secured a 2-1 victory.

The Red Devils all-time record goal scorer said about Mainoo (via Fotmob):

"The composure he has shown on the ball, for such a young lad, has been excellent. It's so good to see a player from the academy coming through and dictating the games for Manchester United. He's had some moments where he's struggled, but I think this afternoon he's been absolutely brilliant."

Manchester United will hope they can build on their success next season after enduring a disappointing campaign on every other front.
