“That goal is definitely my goosebumps moment” - Frank Lampard chooses favourite goal he scored for Chelsea
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard picked his title-winning strike against Bolton Wanderers back in 2005 as his favorite goal for the club. Lampard was highly successful during his time at Stamford Bridge, establishing himself as a club icon and one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history.
The former England international made his switch to west London in 2001, leaving his boyhood club West Ham United. He joined at a time when Chelsea were yearning to win their first league title in nearly five decades.
After Jose Mourinho's arrival in 2004, things clicked for the Blues, who displayed exceptional form in the English top tier that season. Chelsea lost just one game and conceded only 15 goals the entire term, a record that still holds to this day.
Lampard played an instrumental role in their triumph, contributing 13 goals and 17 assists. He scored two goals in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers on April 30, 2005, the game that secured their first league title in half a century.
During an interview on the official Premier League channel, Lampard picked his second goal on the night as his favorite, as can be seen in the video below. The retired midfielder said:
“Probably because it was our first Premier League title win as a group, Chelsea’s first for 50 years, that goal is definitely my goosebump moment. I watch that back more than probably any other goal. It’s the one that gets me now, even years later.”
Lampard was the club's top goalscorer and assist provider in that campaign.
Frank Lampard offers hilarious response when asked if he considered passing to Chelsea teammate
During the aforementioned interview, Frank Lampard offered an amusing response when asked whether he considered passing to Riccardo Carvalho, who was beside him in a 2v1 situation.
The former midfielder replied with a resounding no, stating that he would've laid it off if it was Didier Drogba in that position. He said:
"No! Who would pass to him in that position, do you know what I mean? If it was Drogba... 'go on then'."
The 2004-05 campaign certainly set the tone for a successful career for Lampard, with the Englishman going on to win two more Premier Leagues, one Champions League, and four FA Cups, amongst other accolades.
Lampard opened up about what made that Chelsea team so dangerous and how they were able to end their prolonged drought for a league title. He said:
"We had a really strong group. We were all friends, we were all around our mid-20s. We hadn't won [anything]. Jose came in and kind of lit the fire between us.
"There was a point in that season where, I remember it well, we didn't concede hardly any. [We conceded] 15 goals over that season I think and this doesn't happen much. But we didn't think we could be beaten most weeks."
