“The club has decided to follow Cesc Fabregas’ direction” - Chelsea legend announces exit from Serie A side Como
Former Chelsea midfielder Dennis Wise has announced his departure from Serie A side Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas. Wise had been with the team for five years.
Wise witnessed the club's dramatic promotion to the top flight on the last day of the previous season as a CEO, which he became in February 2021 after arriving as a technical consultant two years earlier.
However, he announced his surprise exit from the club less than a month from their 2024-25 Serie A opener, posting on Instagram (via Mirror):
"It is with a heavy heart that I leave Como 1907. I wish the club success going forward. It has been an incredible journey with Como 1907, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunities and experiences I have had here.
"The support from the team, the coaching staff, and our loyal fans has been overwhelming, and I will always cherish the memories we've made together. During my time with the club, we have made significant progress and achieved promotion back into Serie A, which gives me immense pride. I want to acknowledge the collective effort that made that possible.
Expressing his gratitude to fans for their support and wishing luck for the future, he concluded:
"I am also incredibly grateful to the fans who have supported us through thick and thin. Their passion and unwavering support have been a driving force for me to achieve the success they deserve.
"The club has decided to follow Cesc Fabregas' direction. I wish good luck to the team, to Cesc, and to all the new recruitment team in the next steps; Serie A status and European football—I wish you continued success. While this is a farewell, it is not the end. I will always carry the spirit of Como and its wonderful people with me, wherever I go."
Fabregas was appointed the head coach of the newly promoted Serie A side earlier this month.
"We all believe" - Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas on becoming Como head coach
Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas expressed his happiness on becoming the head coach of Como as he looks forward to achieving success with the newly promoted side.
The Spaniard was the assistant head coach under caretaker boss Osian Roberts, who's now the club's head of development. Ahead of the new season, Fabregas said (as per BBC):
“I am so happy to be starting this season as head coach, and I thank the ownership group for trusting me with this position. I share the ambitions of the group and believe this is just the start of where this club can go.
"It’s going to be a tough and important season but myself and the rest of the coaching staff are ready, and we all believe.”
The former Chelsea man's side open their Serie A campaign against Juventus on August 19. The Bianconeri are record 36-time champions but haven't won the title since 2020.
