"The club has got nothing off them" – Pundit slams 'terrible' Chelsea duo for woeful performances
Former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie has slammed Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for their lacklustre performances for Chelsea in the ongoing 2022-23 campaign.
Sterling, 28, has failed to live up to expectations since joining the Stamford Bridge outfit from Manchester City for £47.5 million last summer. He has registered seven goals and four assists in 35 games for his club so far this season.
Aubameyang has also struggled in a Blues kit this season. The striker has scored just three goals and laid out one assist in 21 appearances since sealing a move from Barcelona for £10 million last summer.
Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie shared his thoughts on the Chelsea duo. He elaborated:
"Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been terrible for Chelsea this season. The club has got nothing off them. How can they pay that much money for those two? I hate saying that about players."
Claiming that Blues caretaker boss Frank Lampard has a headache regarding the pair, McAvennie continued:
"Sterling has been everywhere [like Liverpool and Manchester City] but has not established himself as a world-class player and he should have by now. Aubameyang is not even running when he is on the pitch, that is not right. Frank Lampard must be tearing his hair out because he has come in and neither of the players are interested."
Sterling, who has a deal at Stamford Bridge until June of 2027, dropped to the bench for his team's recent 3-1 Premier League victory over Bournemouth. He started the Blues' four previous league matches, which all resulted in losses.
Meanwhile, Aubameyang dropped out of his side's squad for the win at the Vitality Stadium last weekend. He is said to be interested in sealing a return to Barcelona in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to GOAL.
Gabriel Agbonlahor hits out at Chelsea star Mason Mount
Speaking on talkSPORT, former Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor stated that Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is unworthy of a salary package worth £200,000 per week. He elaborated:
"He has scored 27 goals in 129 league games. He is not fantastic. The stats show that he is not. He is an okay player, but he is not outstanding. He is not adding enough to the team to warrant £200,000-a-week contract."
Mount, 24, is currently in a contract standoff with his boyhood club as is keen to bag a new improved contract. With his contract set to expire in June of 2024, Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in signing the player this summer.
Since making his debut in 2019, Mount has scored 33 goals and laid out 37 assists in 195 matches for Chelsea.
