“The club does not set limits” - Lionel Messi sheds light on Inter Miami plans to become one of the best clubs in the world
Lionel Messi has shed some light on Inter Miami's plans to become one of the best clubs in the world. He revealed this in an interview with famed journalist Fabrizio Romano for the popular football app 433.
Since his move to Fort Lauderdale in 2023, the legendary Argentine playmaker has enhanced the Herons' prestige. After leaving Paris Saint-Germain, he joined up with the MLS club, became their captain, and led them to win the Leagues Cup last year - their first-ever trophy.
This season, he has led them to the Supporters' Shield, thanks to a hugely successful MLS season where he scored 20 goals and provided 10 assists in 19 games. They are now in the MLS Cup Playoffs, where he has already provided an assist in their 2-1 win over Atlanta United at the Chase Stadium on October 25.
Inter Miami are widely recognized as favorites to win the tournament, and they are also set to partake in the FIFA Club World Cup next year. Their impressive growth in the past year can be directly correlated to Lionel Messi's decision to join them, and they are set to continue on this path. The World Cup winner told Romano (via Marca):
"The club does not set limits, that is the philosophy. This was demonstrated by everything they have done so far. We have to keep growing in order to be great within the MLS and why not, within the world."
Time will tell just how far Inter Miami will rise alongside Messi in the coming years. The playmaker has just one year left in his contract at the club, but it will not be surprising if he opts to renew and continue playing alongside his former Barcelona teammates.
Lionel Messi warns Inter Miami teammates about "very silly mistakes" as they look to clinch MLS Cup
Lionel Messi has warned his Inter Miami teammates to be careful about making mistakes as they look to win the MLS Cup. They are currently playing a best-of-three series against Atlanta United and will progress to the next stage if they win their next game on November 2.
Messi said to Fabrizio Romano (via Marca):
"We are aware that the real title we want is the MLS. During the year we had many very silly mistakes that we can avoid and that in these playoffs cannot happen to us because they can cost you elimination."
He added:
"I think we are one of the favorites. There are also tough teams that are not going to give us anything, but I think the other teams also respect us."
Lionel Messi will hope he can lead Inter Miami to further glory, as he continues his unprecedented impact in the USA.
