“Their arms don’t ache from lifting trophies” - Ex-Arsenal captain aims dig at Gunners for ‘unacceptable’ problem after loss to Inter

Former Arsenal captain William Gallas slammed the Gunners for their lack of energy following the 1-0 loss to Inter Milan on Wednesday (November 6). The north Londoners have been poor for the past few games and struggled in their latest UEFA Champions League match against the Italian outfit.

Mikel Arteta's team has been under par in its past three Premier League games as well, having failed to win each of these ties. Speaking to Prime Casino, Gallas said (via Mirror):

"I know it's not easy to repeat the same things year after year, because when you’re competing for the Premier League title, trying to be the best, you lose a lot of energy. I could understand Arsenal’s levels dropping if they won the league last season, I wouldn’t like it, but I would understand it because that can happen to successful teams."

He added:

"It’s unacceptable for their players to look tired at this time of the season. Liverpool won the Premier League; they won the Champions League. They dropped off last season, and you can understand why, because maybe the players has heard the same things from Klopp for too long. You forgive them that because of what they won, Arsenal doesn’t have that excuse."
"Arsenal has won absolutely nothing! Nothing. Why are they tired? Their arms don’t ache from lifting trophies. Explain to me why they are tired. Liverpool, they don’t look tired, they look like they’re ready to fight for the title."

Up next for the Gunners is an away tie at Stamford Bridge, where they face Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday (November 10).

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta feels his team was harshly done by after dominating the proceedings against Inter Milan. The only goal for the Nerazzurri came from the spot after Mikel Merino was penalized for handball within the area.

However, the Spain international was fairly close to Inter attacker Mehdi Taremi, who deflected the ball onto Merino's arm. Speaking after the match, Arteta said (via TNT Sports):

"The level of domination that we played, I feel like we were very harshly done tonight. In the sense that it is obvious."

Throughout the match, the Gunners kept 63% possession and managed 20 attempts on goal, 13 more than their opponents. However, the north London side hit the target just four times, while Inter called David Raya into action just once.
