"There for a pay cheque" "Mudryk twice the player" - Chelsea fans rip into star attacker after underwhelming display vs Newcastle

Chelsea fans have voiced their displeasure with star attacker Raheem Sterling following the Blues' stalemate against Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly. The game between the two Premier League giants ended in a 1-1 draw as Sterling failed to impress the Blues faithful.

Summer signing from Villarreal, Nicolas Jackson managed to impress yet again as he gave Mauricio Pochettino's side the lead in the 12th minute. Miguel Almiron equalised for Newcastle United late in the first half.

Raheem Sterling replaced Jackson at half-time and could never really impose himself in the game. Chelsea fans took to Twitter to react on the lacklustre display from the former Manchester City and Liverpool winger.

One fan claimed Sterling is capable of only tap-ins while another pointed out his lack of involvement in the game. Another fan insisted that Manchester City scammed them with the England international.

One fan claimed Sterling does not look interested in playing for the club and is only collecting his wages.

Here are some tweets from the Chelsea fans as they slammed Sterling on Twitter:

@CFCPys That’s Sterling for you. Won’t do anything unless he’s at the back post for the tap in
Sterling has been on the pitch 25 minutes and touched the ball like 4 times.
@CFCPys He is a shocking, shocking player. Man City fleeced us
@CFCPys He looks like he doesn’t even care lol he’s there for a pay check
@CFCPys He looks so disinterested at times its crazy
@CFCPys He can’t play man

Mudyrk is twice the player

Sterling made his move to Stamford Bridge last summer in a deal worth £47.5 million but has not been able to replicate his Manchester City form. The England international scored just nine times and provided four assists in 38 games in his debut season for the Blues.

The former Liverpool star also missed nine games due to injuries and the Blues' overall struggles on the pitch also impacted his game.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino confident of getting get the best out of attacker

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino insisted that he is certain that Raheem Sterling can come back to his usual best following an underwhelming debut season at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino is hopeful that he can revive the fleet-footed winger. He said, as quoted by BBC Sport:

"I think he's an important player for us. He's in our plan. He can provide to the team many different things. We are confident that we can get the best from him to help the team to achieve what we want."
